Biography

Gareth Bennett was a Member of the National Assembly for Wales between May 2016 and April 2021. This was his biography at the time he left.

Key interests and achievements

Gareth’s political interests include Constitutional issues, sport, the licensed trade, skills and retraining, and housing. Before being elected to the National Assembly for Wales, he co-authored books on football and local history.

Personal history

Gareth was born in Cardiff and was educated at Radyr Comprehensive School.

Professional background

Gareth was trained as a newspaper reporter and worked on local newspapers. He then had a variety of jobs in various fields ranging from administration to casual labouring.

Political history

Gareth was first elected to the Assembly in May 2016.

In November 2019, Gareth left UKIP and became an Independent Assembly Member.
