Non-public funding of the arts

Non-public funding of the arts

Inquiry5

Background

The Culture, Welsh Language and Communications Committee held an inquiry into non-public arts funding to investigate the success of the arts sector in Wales at increasing its non-public funding, the distribution of non-public arts funding in Wales and international models of best-practice that Wales could look to emulate in this regard.

Between July and August 2017 the Committee asked for written responses to the following questions:

·      The effectiveness of efforts to increase non-public funding of the arts in Wales by bodies including the Arts Council, local authorities and artists and arts organisations themselves. This funding would include:

o  earned income;

o  philanthropy;

o  investment.

·      The level of non-public funding distributed in Wales and how this compares to the rest of the UK.

·      International examples of innovative approaches to raising non-public funding of the arts.

The Committee also engaged with people in the sector between October and December 2017.
