Description: The Welsh Women who Championed Equality 1840 – 1990 – Prof. Angela John “Rocking the boat” focuses on seven Welsh women who resisted the status quo in Wales, England and beyond during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. These essays critically investigate the setbacks and hard-won achievements of women who rocked the boat over a period of 150 years, challenge expectations about how women’s lives were lived in the last two centuries, and raise issues of gender and nationality. The women referenced include pioneer doctor and champion of progressive causes, Frances Hoggan, the twentieth century novelist Menna Gallie, champions of womens equality Lady Rhondda and Edith Picton-Turbervill, Myvanwy and Olwen Rhŷs, and Margaret Wynne Nevinson.
Open to the public: Attendance at the event is by invitation only however the Senedd and the Pierhead will remain accessible to the public during our normal opening hours.
