Purpose:
A
Government Bill, introduced by Carl Sargeant, Minister for Local Government and
Communities. Following a change in ministerial portfolios in March 2013, the
First Minister authorised John Griffiths AM, Minister for Culture and Sport, as
the new Member in Charge of the Bill, from 18 March 2013. The Business Committee
remitted the Bill to the Enterprise
and Business Committee.
About the
Bill
The Active
Travel (Wales) Bill places a requirement on local authorities to continuously
improve facilities and routes for walkers and cyclists and to prepare maps
identifying current and potential future routes for their use. The Bill
will also require new road schemes to consider the needs of pedestrians and
cyclists at design stage.
Current Stage
The Active
Travel (Wales) Act 2013 (external website) became law in Wales (external
website) on 4 November 2013.
