1.2     Please outline your reasons for your answer to question 1.1

(we would be grateful if you could keep your answer to around 1000 words)

Every parent is responsible for bringing up their child. There is enough legislation to protect children from abuse. Parents who chastise their children with a gentle smack should not be in danger from prosecution. It's a pity our politicians don't concern themselves about the crime, drug taking, homelessness etc etc that is blighting our society . Have they nothing better to do. All of my three children had a smack at some time. They all went on to university, are all happily married. They have raised their children in the same way. My eldest grandchild  is a medical student, the next in line hopes to go to medical school as well. They have been raised in loving caring homes and that's the important thing, they are loved and know it.

My own observations have been that those parents who didn't chastise their children have raised some disasters. Sadly we are in an age where teachers are expected to do parents jobs. Saying "please" and "thank you" should be taught at home. Let's get back to the real world.

Wasting Police time and court time and children being removed from homes that ultimately leads to harm to parents and the child.

Police and social workers are already at breaking point. Let them get on with the important things. I'm 75 years old, 50 years ago people would not have believed this. I was smacked and am glad that my parents gave me gentle chastisement. How it would have been for me if I had taken from them into "care" I shudder to think knowing what happened to some children in the "caring homes" in those days. Please, please, please stop this madness and get on with something useful.
