I feel that the Bill would make criminals of ordinary, loving parents whose concern is only to teach their children the difference between right and wrong and to warn them of danger. It is primarily the responsibility of the parent to discipline children. Children are not adults and a light and controlled smack is sometimes necessary to teach lessons which the child has otherwise been unable to understand. If the Bill becomes law it is likely that innocent parents could be prosecuted. Smacking does not constitute abuse but is rather an evidence of a parent's loving concern that the child should learn right behaviours.
I feel that the Bill is also unnecessary as the law already protects children against violence.

I feel that the implementation of the Bill would require an increase in the number of social workers and police that the country is unable to afford.

The Bill could mean that children are not properly disciplined and this would have serious consequences for schools and society.
The criminalising of loving parents would do more harm than good to their children.
Social workers and police would be stretched to breaking point.
