Not sure I think they have to be involved but I'm not sure I trust either of them to do it properly, to keep their staff up to date with current knowledge, and work in the interests of autistic people rather then of those organusations |

It depends what the start point is. If their going to use that time to consult and listen then it might be reasonable |

Yes I would go further and say it can set people/categories who must be there to ensure the assessment is well rounded and covers all areas |

For adults, someone who can help with specialist needs in getting and keeping down a job. For those in education, those who can directly help with this area and school liason etc |

prejudice, fear of prejudice. Also anxiety in making and keeping appointments which mean autistic people dont manage to obtain things, or even thrown off nhs waiting lists or benefits because of non attendance when this is due to hyper anxiety and lack of support. But often you cant get the support if you dont manage to tuen up to appointments so its a catch 22. |

Not sure There's not much point raising awareness unless the law specifically denotes particular up to date information/understanding to be passed on and then checks that professionals actually have this understanding- not just specialists - but also GPS and classroom teachers. After all everyone THINKS they know what autism is it's just that most of the time most of them are getting it wrong. I find as an autistic mother of autistic children that we get far more prejudice from professionals than from laypeople in the community as a whole. This is something that needs to be tackled. From this point of view educating/raising awareness isn't something separate from creating appropriate support, but part and parcel of the same projects. |
